Excellent location by the old Customs House.
We paid for a harbour view and were initially disappointed by a room which had
one window and not much light. Reception were happy to change our room to one
with 3 windows which was excellent. So, check your room before unpacking. Both
rooms were recently decorated in period style.
We had breakfast in the Swiftsure diner below the Days Inn next door or the
hotel's basement cafe (free internet).
Decent gym and pool.
Evening meals at Swiftsure and Santiago (both excellent) and there are several
other restaurants nearby.
Park the hire car in front of the hotel overnight for free until 9am then move
it to the back of the hotel for 60 minutes whilst having breakfast. You MUST
park the car on the correct side of the road to avoid a CAD 20 fine for reverse
parking.
Worth visiting Fisherman's Wharf, the museum and Parliament nearby. Butchart
Gardens excellent. We also ejoyed a trip to Sidney and the boat ride across to
the sand spit/island - allow one, preferably two, hours on the island.

We stayed at Hotel Grand Pacific Sept 7-9, my wife's sister and husband were
visiting from Minnesota and decide to show them Victoria. I might say we were
very disappointed with this hotel. Outward its very beautiful and very close to
most activities in Victoria. Our rooms 402 and 424 had some unpleasant odour
most likely from the worn out reddish carpet that had some dark stains embedded
into it. The rooms also did not have flat screen tvs, they still use old black
ones. The bathroom and shower are very ordinary. We asked for a microwave since
we wanted to warm up our baby food (10months) they charged us $11 for this.
Parking was $15 a day. This is certainly not a 5 star hotel and not worth the
money we paid. What a waste of such a beautiful property.

I stayed for 3 nights for a business conference at the Empress. I booked a suite
as my family came to visit the last night. The front staff (door man & valet)
were amazingly friendly and well dressed. They handled my luggage and drove my
car with care like it was theirs.
During the conference I won a framed print and it was dropped off. When I
returned it was nicely and carefully placed in my room with a note offering to
store it out of the way if needed.
I would not stay anywhere else ever in Victoria after this experience. The pool
is nice too!

A very nice hotel in a very good location. Very helpful staff. I have stayed at
three other hotels in Victoria and have found this to be the best.

We have stayed at many hotels/Inns in Victoria and have found the Grand Pacific
to be the best. Beautiful rooms, great beds, perfect location -- and great
value! I can't think of anything negative!

I had never been to Victoria before and we have wanted to visit for some time
... my husband had been to the Empress and was not thrilled with their rooms so
we decided to stay here .. we had a room on the 7th floor at the front with a
harbor view which was fabulous, we had a small balcony with two chairs .. staff
were very pleasant and knowledgeable .. the only issue we had was the concierge
said that the Tillcum Mall was "massive" and "exceptional" .. when we got there
there was a grand total of "maybe" ten stores and did not cater to the better
clientele .. it was dingy and run down and not even worth mentioning to hotel
guests at all .. even the Fabricland I visited there was horrible ... we were
most disappointed .. on the way back in we found the Mayfair Mall and that is
very large and has very nice shopping, bright and much better stores including
The Bay ..
We had dinner in the dining room and found the food very good and the
staff/service great .. all in all the staff at this hotel was excellent .. the
first night there I called and asked if they would have a hot water bottle which
they promptly brought up to me with a "I hope you feel better". :)
We had room service for breakfast on our last morning there .. we ordered a
bagel and a muffin and they sent two muffins ... they had to come back with the
right order ... the room service fruit plate was skimpy compared to what you got
if you went down to the dining room to eat ... we had breakfast in the dining
room two mornings ... the scone I had was dry as anything, pineapple for the
fruit plate at the buffet was dark ... the toaster took forever to pop up so the
lineup at the buffet was increasing ... I dont know if they rectified it or not
...

There were vendors along the waterway and a night market, people singing,
playing instruments, right across the street ... you could walk everywhere.
People were so friendly. We had a view of downtown and the wax museum.
Downtown was walking distance, the city is full of historical buildings all
restored .. we were amazed at the cleanliness of Victoria ... we also did the
horse and carriage tour which is a one minute walk from the hotel by the
Parliament Buildings .. that is well worth it ... the driver gives you the
history of buildings you pass by, most informative if you haven't been before.
The down side .... they have two sinks, one in the bathroom and one on the
outside ... there is no trap so if one person runs the one sink you can hear it
in the other sink .. my contractor husband noticed that immediately ... another
kind of uncomfortable thing is, if you are in bed or in the bathroom you can
hear the person in the next room using the toilet ... the soundproofing is NOT
adequate ... we didn't hear any noise from the hallways, only from the other
bathroom!!! One morning the outside sink was not cleaned. |
