This is one of many hotels in the inner harbor area of Victoria. i provides easy
walking
access to the city.
The Huntingdon Hotel is older. From the front is looks really nice and the
office and lobby is at the rear of the building. The lobby and hallways to the
room are dingy and dark. Smells a bit like the restaurant/pub in the lobby. The
room is very spartan, but comfortable. I was provided free parking as part of a
promotion. Moving around the hotel would be challenging for someone needing a
wheelchair. There ia n elevator, but it does not stop at the first level. To go
form the lobby to the first level, there are steps and you have to pick up a
suitcase which may be challenging for some.
There are many choices of hotels in the area. Look for deals. The nearby
luxurious Hotel Pacific, offered a room for the same price as the Huntingdon for
the last two nights we stayed. We were pleased to find the deal.

My husband, my parents, and I stayed at the Huntingdon Hotel in Victoria, BC. We
had separate rooms, but both parties were equally disappointed. My husband and
I’s room was on the ground floor, and it was very, very loud, and I did not feel
safe. I was there to run the RVM; therefore, a good sleep was imperative to my
run the next day. I could hear drunks on the street screaming and hollering into
the night, which not only kept me awake, but worried me of break-ins.
My parents stayed in a suite with a harbor view. Although they had a more
expensive room, they did not enjoy their stay anymore than my husband and I. My
parents opted for the suite in order to make dinner and breakfast at the hotel.
When you start a race at 7:30 in the morning, it is difficult to go out for
breakfast beforehand. When we arrived we learned that although a suite with a
kitchenette was booked, there is an extra charge to utilize the amenities in the
room. When we arrived the power to the kitchenette was turned off, and the
cupboards storing the dishes were locked. We felt this was cash gauging, and
were very offended by the extra charge.
Beware of the pictures of the suites and rooms the Huntingdon Hotel advertises
on their homepage. These pictures are not realistic to what you are purchasing.
The pictures on-line must be show suites only, as neither of our rooms were
comparable to the pictures presented on-line. For what you receive the prices of
the rooms are overpriced. The furniture is outdated and cheap. The Huntingdon
advertises itself as a boutique hotel; however, I would have been happier with a
Best Western. I am running the RVM again this year, and I will not be staying at
this hotel.

This hotel is good value for money, and the staff are really friendly and
helpful. What's not so good is that some of the furniture and decor has seen
better days. I also found it a bit strange that the tea and coffee making
facilities were in the bathroom (next to the sink, which had a temperamental tap
that soaked everything!).

Good location, only about a quarter mile away from the Legislative Building and
the Fairmont Empress Hotel. Clean room. Parking available on the street (I think
for a limited time) and also beneath the hotel (for $).
When we arrived, internet access in the room was down. Hotel Clerk asked, "Do
you really need access from your room?" (Yes, that was advertised). It was not
fixed for 24 hours. Had to go out to the dining area to use the internet.
Ate at the restaurant in the hotel. Service was EXTREMELY slow. All the
customers that day complained about the length of time it took for the food to
come out of the kitchen. We ordered a smoothie and a bowl of oatmeal--it took 45
minutes, and it wasn't even that crowded in the restaurant. When we complained
to the waitress, the manager came over to apologize, made a few excuses about
the cook, and that was it (no offer of discounts, or anything). It still took
another 10 minutes for the food to come out. When it did, the oatmeal was more
like the topping of some pie--dry oats soaked in milk and brown sugar. I
couldn't eat it -- it was way too sweet. Luckily, the waitress, who was already
extremely frustrated by the lack of support from the management and the cook,
told us that she was going to give our meals for free.
This hotel is nothing to write home about. Best Western is on the next block
over, closer to the sights.

The reason we chose this hotel was because it was relatively cheap so I guess we
got what we paid for. It is in a good location near the inner harbour and as we
only wanted the room to sleep in we were satisfied enough with it.

Great location - could walk easily to museum, parks and shopping, BUT - we had a
series of unfortunate events. The underground parking is not free as advertised.
The secure entrance card did not work on the main parking entrance - must drive
around building to other entrance - no big deal. That's a maintenance problem.
(NB a previous guest had written a review saying that the underground parking
didn't work, but it would be fixed. How long ago was that?) The in-room coffee
maker did not work. That's OK, we thought we could get a can of Coke from the
pop machine. The pop machine was sold out. Went to the lobby to ask where we
could get a coffee. The restaurant was closed and the in-room coffee maker was a
housekeeping problem. The man at the desk told me to go across the street to
another hotel and use their Coke machine. The clock radio did not work. That's
OK - we're on holidays. The sheets were stained - ugh. Should we change hotels?
Maybe day 2 will be better. In the morning a girl in the lobby got us a coffee
from the restaurant because it was not open yet. Later in the afternoon when we
came back from our travels the coffee maker had not changed or fixed. Went to
the lobby, but the fellow there said that was a housekeeping problem and
housekeeping had gone for the day. Go figure! We are not demanding people, but
we couldn't wait to leave. |
