Review of the Red Lion Inn Victoria

While the Red Lion Inn Victoria is very comfortable, clean with plenty of
parking, and there are restaurants in the area (including a nice Chinese
restaurant connected to the hotel), keep in mind that it is several miles
outside downtown Victoria on a commercial strip. Public transportation is not
convenient. Otherwise, it’s fine.
Traveller's tip on local attractions
Butchart Gardens are spectacular, a must. Take the boat trip as well.
Craigdarroch Castle is also worth a visit. A pleasant surprise were the
beautiful gardens around Government House (free and open to the public til
sunset), high up with wonderful views across the Straits of Juan de Fuca to the
snow capped Olympic Mts. Victoria Butterfly Garden is well worth a visit. Royal
B.C. Museum has excellent Northwest Native American collections plus Imax.

We stayed at the Red Lion Inn Victoria in a 2 room suite with a king size bed,
and pull out couch. The room was clean and tidy. They cleaning staff even washed
our dishes for us. The bathroom seemed a bit dated, the toilet wobbled a bit on
its base. The beds were comfortable, and it was wonderful having a bedroom to
separate ourselves from the kids - for the few days that we were there we didn't
have to go to bed when the kids did :-).

This Red Lion looks great online, especially for the price, but it is not really
a "suite" , just a long hotel room with a mini-kitchenette. Very clean with
sweet maid service, but the carpet is in dire need of either a deep cleaning or
just replace it. In other reviews, the quiet air-conditioning is mentioned and
it is, but we used it not only for cooling the room but to dispel a strange
smell. We would have used the window for this, but our room faced a large
trucking dispatch business and the noise made it necessary to keep the window
closed It also faced the good part of this hotel's location which is directly on
the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. We brought our bikes and for most of the
trip we could just hop onto the trail and go wherever we wanted. We did make the
mistake, however, to take our car out in the evening for when we returned, the
night club (which is on one end of the hotel) had totally taken over the
parking, leaving us to circle quite awhile to find anyplace to park. When we did
find a place not quite in the actual hotel lot, our car was scratched up the
next morning. The only comment from the front desk staff was "Yeah, I
understand". Another note on the location; it's pretty far from downtown. OK for
biking but you would really need a car to get to the attractions most want to
see in Victoria.

This hotel was best-in-price ($89) when we booked it on
http://www.allure-hotels.com
The bed was firm & comfy, there was a fridge, a decent quality TV in the room.
The air cond/heater unit was a bit noisy so we switched it off. Overall the room
was quiet & clean.
Their pool is a decent size and is heated to about 75 F.
The parking lot of this hotel intersects the Galloping Goose Trail. We rode our
bikes up from the Swartz Bay ferry terminal along the Lochside Trail to the
Galloping Goose intersection, then a couple of km more till we hit the Red LIon.
This is a perfect stopping place. Very convenient and easy to see from the
trail.
For bikers interested in doing the Galloping Goose - the Goose is like a bike
highway - very flat with beautiful views. It is about half-way if you are
intending to do the Lochside trail with the Goose.
There are no bike lock-ups at the hotel, but they let you take your bikes into
the room.
They offer free internet & two free computers. The connection was slower than
dial-up. Heard people complaining that they couldn't get it in their rooms, the
signal was too weak or timed out downloading. The hotel uses cable high-speed,
but the more users, the slower it gets until it positively crawls.
This hotel is a bit out of the way if you want to buy your own food by walking
to a store. The Jade Chinese restaurant in the basement of the hotel offers
genuine Chinese food. We got two coupons from the desk, which made our dinner
$16 for 2 which we thought was a stunning bargain. The food quality at the
restaurant is medium (but extremely good for the price.)

End up we stayed 5 days at the Red Lion. Our family enjoyed our trip to
Vancouver Island. We planed to stay 2 days at first, then move to another hotel
on the upper Vancouver island. However, after the first 2 days stay, we decided
to stay this hotel for our entire trip. Staffs are very friendly, the suite we
stayed has everything we need, a good size of refrigerator, kitchenette, comfy
beds, dinning table, in room internet access, free parking. The hotel is central
located, every easy for us drive around. For the money we paid for, we think we
got a great deal! We will be back!

We frequent the Red Lion Inn and Suites numerous times a year when we visit
Victoria both on business and pleasure. The hotel has been nicely renovated,
with the suites providing extra comfort and space, marble bathrooms, leather
sofas, flat screen t.v.’s. All suites are nicely appointed and extremely good
value and always quiet. The kitchenette is always a nice addition when one is
working long hours on business as well as free easy access complimentary
parking. The hotel is conveniently located close to the downtown core. The front
desk staff is helpful with directions and our room has always been ready upon
arrival. We always recommend Red Lion Inn and Suites to our friends, family and
business associates, it’s our number one pick!

We stayed in a one bedroom suite on the 4th floor, so room was very quiet. Staff
at desk were very friendly and helpful. We were here for 4 days and took
advantage of the laundry room . The kitchenette was a nice feature, we went to a
nearby grocer and made a few meals in. Victoria was a great city to visit. Lots
of sightseeing. Only con of the hotel was it did not have wireless internet. The
hotel is located right next to the Galloping Goose trail, which we took
advantage of every morning we took a nice walk , while waiting on our teenage
sons to get ready for the day.

We stayed at this hotel for one night while vacationing in British Columbia with
aunt/uncle. My first impressions of this hotel was that it was a decent suburban
hotel with a beautiful lobby and check-in area. However, once we got our rooms,
we noticed that there was insufficient lighting, and some of the furniture
seemed to be a bit worn out.
The location of the hotel wasn't that great, either, located about 15 minutes
drive from the Victoria city centre (not walking distance, so you must have a
car). The best thing about this hotel was the Chinese restaurant in the
basement, pretty delicious crispy chicken and other Chinese dishes. |
