Hotel Review of the
Cascade Lodge Whistler
Jan 14, 2011
My husband & i stayed here for 2 nights while skiiing in Whistler. We
had a deluxe studio which was perfect for us. It was quiet, comfortable,
clean & well equipped. Staff were very helpful and friendly although the
main desk was so busy at peak times that there was a long wait to check
in. The pool and hot tub were good, and the ski lock up service was
excellent. The free internet worked absolutely fine on my iphone.
I can't really find any fault here, although the only thing i would say
is that this is a hotel that is very functional - you're not going to
receive luxury service, it's more of a 'fend for yourself ski lodge' (eg.
laundry only changed every 4 days). This was ideal for us for 2 nights
but perhaps for a longer stay (like the previous reviewer) you might
want somewhere a bit more attentive.
Hotel Review of the
Cascade Lodge Whistler
Dec 24, 2010
I just spent a full week at Cascade Lodge and was EXTREMELY disappointed
with the customer service, amenities and overall accommodation.
This is the first time I've ever written a review but felt so compelled
to make sure other travelers are aware of this place.
First off my husband and I are pretty laid back people that can settle
for just about any accommodation when it comes to taking a snowboarding
vacation-the barest accommodations to some more elaborate. We generally
don't expect too much but do expect the amenities advertised to the the
customer to being fulfilled by the hotel/motel we are staying. We aren't
the type of people to complain nor those that are constantly unsatisfied
but generally roll with the punches.
This places, however, tried our patience on the customer service level.
Internet Connection - Horrendous
The internet connection at this place was horrendous. We had to call the
front desk everyday to request that they get their wi-fi fixed (no
ethernet connections in the room). We were advised that we would have to
call their provider to sort out the problem as to why either of us
couldn't connect or keep a internet connection....mind you we are very
savy computer people so this wasn't a user error but a error with little
bandwidth ability. The loss of accessibility to internet cost my husband
and I valuable work that we had hoped to make possible during our trip.
I also couldn't get wi-fi on my smartphone nor 3G access from the hotel.
The recommendation from the internet provider was the find an ethernet
cable in the building and hook up there to get access...not acceptable
if you are advertising this as a complimentary feature from each room.
Housekeeping Schedule Unsuitable
The housekeeping service is only done every fourth day if you stay a
minimum of five days. We had fresh towels only once and no more coffee
or supplies brought to our room after the second day.
Laundry Machine Customer Service A Joke
They provide a washing machine and dryer available to their guest but
don't keep change at the front desk to assist you with the machines.
Instead you need to walk a block and a half to get to the local
convience store to break your change if you need it for the machines.
Front Desk Access - Could be Challenging
Half the time we called down to the front desk we were redirected to
another facility -Glacial Lodge-that covers the phones for them when
someone is away or the desk if busy.
When we called down and requested that someone bring us some coffee
replacements (because we hadn't had any since our second day) they
(Glacial Lodge) advised us that we could go down to the front desk of
Cascade Lodge and pick it up ourselves or wait to have someone bring it
up to our room. We chose the latter of course as we expected this sort
of service...two hours later and a phone call to the manager is when we
finally got our coffee.
We've been in motels that had more common sense customer service support
than this place. It's like they only provide half the service which
isn't acceptable for a place of this caliber (or stated caliber) and
listed as a condominium resort.
Suite Size
We stayed in the suite which was extremely small for two people. They
didn't provide any dressers to put our stuff away, and the closet was
extremely small for two people with winter gear and clothes. I would NOT
recommend staying in this type of room at this facility unless you are
staying by yourself, and it is a suite made for one person.
Gym and Pool -Disappointment
The gym was a complete joke and not even worth calling a gym. The pool
was nice a bit cool and the hot tubs (2) were very nice.
Atmosphere of the Facility
With it being the holidays we were looking for a facility that would of
had another place to relax then just one's room. The lobby was small too
close to the door and half the time the fireplace wasn't even lit. If
you are the type of person that likes to get out of your room, and relax
in the facilities this is not your place. You are pretty much stuck in
your room if you want to do anything in this facility (assuming you've
already seen the village and explored all there is).
Pro:
Close to the village very short walk to the lifts
Staff was very friendly (very young)
The true problem with this place is the way management was set up this
facility not the staff. So the comments on the staff was nice and
helpful (when there) is correct but the overall operations of the
facility is a HUGE disappointment.
Just my two cents...if you stay here I hope your experience is more
enjoyable and acceptable to your needs.
Hotel Review of the
Cascade Lodge Whistler
Dec 24, 2010
Let me say that the Cascade Lodge has definitely gone down hill. The
rooms are old, the beds are lumpy and uncomfortable. There is no water
pressure in the taps and the washer doesn't fill so your clothes end up
with all the white detergent on them. The air vents in your room blow in
smells from other peoples rooms. I was constantly smelling dryer fumes
and we didn't have our dryer on. We found trash under the end tables
that wasn't ours. Then to top it all off they come up with bogus smells
from cooking in the room after you leave so they can charge your credit
card hundreds and I mean hundreds of dollars to clean their filthy rooms
and carpets. They charged me for cleaning the bedding and I thought the
bedding was supposed to be cleaned after every guest. Looks like Resort
Quest is so desperate for business they have to make up false damage to
pay for the shortfall of unrented rooms. Do yourself a favour and book
with another agency.
