We stayed in apartment #99 during the 2010 Winter Olympics. We had a
fantastic time, and the apartment had everything we desired.
#99 is a two-level townhouse. On the entry level there is a kitchen,
laundry (washing machine and dryer), lounge and TV (seats 4), dining
table (seats 6), gas fireplace, guest washroom (with shower), coat
closet and coat rack.
On the upper level is master bedroom (queen bed), second bedroom (twin).
The large bathroom upstairs has a bath (no separate shower). It is
accessible as an ensuite from the master bedroom, also has a door to the
hall for access by the second bedroom.
There is an allocated car space in the (locked) underground car park.
The apartment is well equipped, including dishwasher, all necessary
appliances, cable TV in lounge and each bedroom.
There is an outdoor (heated) communal swimming pool.
Northstar is located across the road from the large IGA supermarket, at
the north end of Whistler village.
For internet, we turned on the Wi-Fi and found a telco service which
would give unlimited wi-fi for a small weekly or monthly charge (credit
card).
We tried hard to find any negatives with the apartment, which came down
to 3 minor criticisms:
- it is 15 minutes walk through the Village Stroll to the gondolas, a
long way to walk in ski boots with skis. I think there is usually a
shuttle bus from just outside Northstar to the village gondola, but
during the Olympics this didn't run. Otherwise, you can leave skis and
boots overnight at the valet in the Carleton Hotel basement if you don't
lik the shuttle.
- there was no obvious ski storage for us - we kept them in the laundry
or behind the coat rack inside the door.
- TVs were only standard format rather than wide format..
This is not a place with masses of servants attending to your every
whim. But if you are self-sufficient, it is ideal.

We stayed in Unit 4, which was a 2 bedroom duplex apartment. Contrary to
a previous review where the odd number condos were facing the road, this
unit is also facing the road. Luckily the road was not very busy, and we
tend to sleep with earplugs on anyway, so the traffic noise did not
bother us. As mentioned before, there is no lift access from Underground
parking, and it was quite inconvenient when you have a lot of luggage.
The apartment itself was fine, clean and of a decent size, and it came
with the usual amentities in the kitchen. Considering the rate we paid
for the place, i think it was a very good deal. We booked via the
whistler official website through the 3 for 2 nights offer. The place
comes with wired high speed internet, which we found to be quite
inconvenient, as we had two laptops with us, and would have much
preferred the wireless option.
The property was managed by Resort Retreat, and it was a bit
inconvenient to check in at their Market Place Lodge reception, but if
you have a car, it is not a big deal. However, they forgot to leave us
the keys to access the pool and hot tub area, and after us inquiring
about it, it took them 2 days to ring us back and say we can pick up the
keys at the Market Place Lodge if we want it. I consider that as a bit
slack in the service front. As a result, we did not use the pool or hot
tub, but have seen other guests enjoying them, and they seem to have a
good time.
Overall i would go back to this place only if the rate is right.

We were looking forward to our Whistler holiday and it did not disappoint. We
stayed at North Star at Stoney Creek. A ResortQuest Property. This Condo-style
complex is near the village and many other conveniences. The check in building
is in the middle of the complex. The employees there were quite good- cheerful.
The pool area was nice, and the weather was awesome. Whistler is a pretty
amazing vacation spot. I highly recommend this option versus cramming 4 people
in to a hotel room.

It was a good deal for a 1 bedroom....including Parking!!
Good Location--Just outside IGA.
Pool was nice but quite cold (heaters broken) So many children not
supervised. It was nice.
The hot tub did not work either...so that turned into a swimming pool.
The room was very nice. Leather furniture. Clean neat...but I was bummed...No
coffee...no tea...no bottles of shampoo....nothing! The bedding for the pullout
was not cleaned and we had to get new...and it sucked!!! Saggy yuck bed...But
that's okay It was still a nice place....For a couple with 1 child though I
would not recommend...Go stay at a nice hotel. It would be more fun. I have
stayed in many places in Whistler over the years and I lived there back in
88...so I have seem many of the places.
Nice but doesn't have it all....and you can get it all for a few more $ a
night...
Still it was clean, a good size and the location good. |
