Hotel Review of the
Alpenglow Lodge at Whistler
July 20, 2009
I think we were lucky to get one of the best rooms at the Alpenglow Lodge as we had a separate bedroom,
balcony with a fantastic view & jetted tub but didn´t pay extra for this. It was
excellent value for money, the room was small but clean, fairly recently
refurbished & had a kitchenette complete with dishwasher, microwave, fridge &
cooker with oven. Alpenglow Lodge Facilities included a gym & outdoor heated swimming pool, coin
operated laundry room, & underground car park.
The Alpenglow Lodge was located near all the best restaurants / take aways, & was just two
minutes walk from a large supermarket & the shuttle bus to the slopes. It was
also within walking distance of Whistler village.
The only negatives were that the check in was at a separate location the other
side of town. House keeping is not included, you have to pay extra if you want
this service.
We had a great holiday - I definitely recommend this accommodation, it was much
better than expected for the money we paid.

For the price, and the location, this was a good value. The Alpenglow Lodge front desk service
was noticeably absent at times, and given that the location is in a high traffic
area there is understandably significant security but without a staffer there
this can be a little frustrating
Traveller's tip on dining
For breakfast, if you want the absolutely best and most wonderful breakfast you
have had and want it served in style, go to Crepe Montagne right across the
street. Don’t let a short line deter you, the service is fast and friendly (it’s
not great for large groups-more than 4-people though, as it’s a small
French-style creperie). This was the best breakfast / brunch I’ve ever had with
the most wonderful (English-speaking French) service in Whistler.

Nowhere was it mentioned prior to booking that there is actually no staff at the
Alpenglow Lodge front desk. Upon arriving, we found a note telling us to go to another hotel to
check in. Arriving there, there was another note telling us to go to yet a third
hotel and check in. Being from out of town and not knowing the area, it was
quite a pain locating and traveling to all the different hotels. Upon checking
in I was told that I had to leave a $250 security deposit. This was also never
mentioned earlier. Once checked in, we were told that we would have to pay for
parking. So arriving at the parking garage, Iwe discovered the the keys we were
given did not work. So, back to the hotel we checked in at, and after a couple
of new keys, and back to the garage, we find out that parking is higher priced
than we were told by the hotel staff. We were very dissatisfied with this Alpenglow Lodge hotel.

The entry to the Alpenglow Lodge requires a card--hard to do when you are checking in.
There is no concierge, and we had to go to another location to check in. There
was no shuttle to the mountain, no amenities, no service. We couldn't get over
what was deemed a 'penthouse'. the place was tiny with no room for our stuff.
when you ski/snowboard, you have a lot of things. Also, the kitchenette was
really limited, including the fact that there was no dishwashing soap. We also
were surprised to find out that there is no housekeeping service, unless you are
staying 6 nights, and it would only be done after the 4th night. We thought we
found the deal of the town, however you get what you pay for.

Great place to stay in Whistler - no need to catch a bus to Blackcomb - just
walk it!
It's a little expensive - but worth it if you want a nice place to relax. Close
to restaurants too - check out the pubs at night for a good feed + beer :)
