Hotel Review of the
Cascade Lodge Whistler

We arrived by bus on Saturday, April 10th (first weekend available from
Wyndham). Front desk was efficient & helpful. You’ve read about the 1
bedroom with sleeper couch, full kitchen, dinette, bathroom & balcony.
Pretty standard stuff. All in working order (except the blinds over the
balcony window) and in very good condition. The wired internet worked
well & was relatively cheap. The pool was heated. I would guess to low
90's - refreshing in the cool evening air. The hot tubs were great. We
used them after the slopes & sometimes later in the evening. There’s a
small but adequate exercise room. The lifts were a fairly short walk and
the village was very accessible. We were very satisfied with cascade.
Whistler village was fun but expensive and a little cookie cutter for
our tastes. We tried Earl's, Longhorn, Citta, Brewing Company and
Taplays Pub but I favoured Black's Pub for après ski in the afternoon
sun. In the evening Taplays & Brewing Company were OK & Earl's had its
own charm.
We met some great people from Vancouver during our first afternoon and
that made a huge difference.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite and had a good time.
Place was well equipped: fully kitchenette, regular table and chairs
(not a counter/bar) full-size fridge& stove, all cookware, utensils,
dishwasher and washer/dryer. Sitting room was comfortable and
sufficiently spacious for family of 4. Bed in bedroom was comfy. Kids
had pullout bed in sitting room, and it was in good shape: almost new. A
big plus is the HUGE outdoor heated pool, two great hot tubs and pool
hours were great (open til 10pm). great landscaping in pool area. Our
suite overlooked pool and was quiet, view towards mountains was also
great. Parking here was cheaper than most Whistler hotels we've stayed
at ($12/night) Wireless internet was free. Staff was quite courteous.
The ski shop stored skis overnight at no charge - friendly people in
staffed the ski storage.
Now the not-so-great: we read reviews here about poor service, but we
never use "services", so no problem. Housekeeping never came by in 4
days, no problem, I prefer it this way: but taking out the garbage was a
joke: First I went down to the lobby in slippers with garbage to put
out. Staff at desk told me to take out outside around the side of the
building. Since I was in slippers and there was snow out there, I asked
if I could leave the bagged garbage for housekeeping to take out.
Staff person said NO, so I just took the trash back to the room. Later,
when we were going outside, I had boots on and brought the garbage and
newspapers to recycle.. I couldn't find any garbage, just a huge 7 foot
by 15 foot industrial-type metal wall around the side of the building
with big "no parking" signs on it. I went back to front desk to ask
again where garbage dump was.. She said go out there, again I find the
huge metal wall. Then I go back, staff person follows me and shows me
that you have to slide this huge metal wall/gate to get to trash/utility
room.. Once in there I find the newspaper recycling, but not a trash
bin. Eventually I just left the garbage bag on the floor beside another
garbage bag.
Now, you'd think they'd either have a decent easy to find garbage room
(accessible from indoors too), or have housekeeping take out garbage..
All in all, a decent place. But at this price, I'd expect either an
indoor garbage bin, or housekeeping to take out trash. Would we stay
there again? If we got a good price (like we did this time): yes.. At
"rack-rate": definitely not. Because of the huge, gorgeous pool area, it
would be great in summer too.

I stayed here for three nights in January 2010. First off I want to say
that the hotel was great value and we got a package with lift tickets
included. The hotel itself is really nice, it's new and clean and just
across the street from main Whistler Village area. It's a short walk to
the gondola (about 5 minutes with skis).
The hotel has a really nice pool and two hot tubs which weren't overrun,
also a ski shack, parking and a workout room (not that anyone uses it on
a ski vacation). No bar/restaurant though but in the village so it
doesn't matter.
Rooms were nice enough and had a kitchenette and gorgeous mountain
views.

Don't be scared by the title. Not noisy or too busy, but very relaxing
for our family of four. The walls could be thicker and the workout room
better appointed, but it was a clean and well-taken care of condo. Our
sons enjoyed the pool and hot tub (and back to the pool, hot tub, etc.)
and we all enjoyed the proximity to the slopes (not ski-in ski-out, but
about a 5 minute walk to the rental pick-up and gondola) and regular
short walks to the village for shopping and ice cream. A very good value
for the price (bundled with lift tickets, in our case). We will stay
there again.

We stayed in a one bedroom unit for 4 nights. Our view looked out onto
the balcony, heated outdoor pool, hot tub and the mountains. The room
consisted of a pullout sofabed, a fireplace, a washer and dryer, a
flatscreen TV, a full kitchenette and a large size bed in the bedroom.
It is about a 10 minute walk to the lifts and to the centre of the
village. A free shuttle bus is also available to take you there. It is
located right across the street. The supermarket is a short walk away.
Underground parking is $12 per night. We had no housekeeping since we
stayed less than 5 nights. We booked our hotel, ski lift tickets and
rentals as a package through ResortQuest Whistler. This included a free
DVD movie per day. If renting equipment, pickup is at the Carleton
Place, right next to the lifts. They will store your skis (not the
boots) for you overnight as part of the package. There are some great
restaurants (some on the pricier side), and lots of shopping in the
village. Our stay just happened to coincide with the Paralympics, which
was a bonus for us. We were able to watch the medal ceremonies in the
evenings. The Cascade Lodge is not a 'ski in-ski out' hotel, but I would
recommend it to others.
