Review of the Pan Pacific Hotel Whistler Mountainside
Sep 14, 2010
When my mother, sister, niece, daughter, friends, and I came to stay at
the Pan Pacific, we received EXCELLENT assistance from arrival to
departure. Rooms were very clean and we were informed NOT to clean
anything up (habit of mine to make beds, etc.). Our hotel was located
right at the base of the mountains with WONDERFUL views. It's NOT
inexpensive staying in a hotel, BUT the Pan Pacific Whistler
Mountainside in Whistler, BC is WORTH EVERY PENNY!!

The hotel is located right at the bottom of the ski slope/ lifts /
mountain bike park. It is modern and has very helpful staff.
Our room had a bathroom, kitchen area, dining table ,sofa bed and
storage area. There was a pull down bed too. The staff were more than
happy to make up the beds and put them away. Having "store away" beds
made for good use of the space. We were very comfortable but there was
only myself and teenage son. If there were 4 people staying, it probably
would have felt crowded.
We had a view over the front of the hotel (mainly the entrance road /
mountains towards blackcomb) and it was very quiet. I wondered if the
rooms overlooking the pool could be a bit noisy.
The pool and hot tubs are great after a hard days biking. There are
changing facilities by the pool if you want.
The hotel also looks after your bike if needed which is a great help.
The only downside to me was that you have to pay for car parking and its
25 Canadian Dollars per day, which adds up.

Let me preface this review by saying that I have high expectations from
the Pan Pacific properties. I usually stay at the Westin Resort & Spa
just across the way but we booked a cheap rate using hotwire and we were
excited that it was the Pan Pacific.
Review of the Pan Pacific Hotel Whistler Mountainside
Pros:
1. The location is awesome. If you are coming to Whistler to mountain
bike, hike or ski then this property is in probably the best location
you can get.
2. The hotel itself is clean and modern with a Whistler feel to it. It
isn't a five star lobby or facility but it is well put together.
3. The staff was responsive. They brought us a crib for our 15 month old
which had all the linens, etc. One small complaint is that we called and
asked to have our room turned down while we were out. When we came back
it wasn't done. We had left the privacy sign on the door. I appreciate
that under normal circumstances they didn't disturb our room ... but it
should have been obvious since we called that we simply forgot the sign
on the door. A few knocks is not the end of the world when you have
specifically called.
4. The room was well appointed. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite facing
the street. It had 2 flat screens, a kitchenette (great for warming
food, etc for the little one).
5. Valet parking is the same cost as regular parking. Nice touch Pan
Pacific! Of course you need to tip the Valet but those kids deserve it.
I thought the valets were great.

Cons:
1. The gym is way too small for a hotel this size. It has a single
running machine, a single elliptical and a single bike. That is just not
acceptable in this day and age when your guests are all active and most
want to work out. The Westin has a way better gym in comparison (and a
spa for the ladies).
2. There is only one restaurant which is an Irish Pub. I am not sure
about you but when I stay at a great hotel ... I do not want to eat pub
food as my only choice. It would be great to have as one of many
options, but as the sole place to eat or order room service from ... I
was disappointed. Compare that to all of the other big properties in
Whistler which have a minimum of 2 places to eat.
3. The bed was not great. Why put a Queen size bed in a suite that size?
My wife and I really felt jammed in and the sheets were crunchy from
being over starched. The pillows were not comfortable. I know this
sounds like a minor annoyance but it did affect our sleep which is
pretty important. Maybe I am being too picky here but the Westins and
Marriotts that I stay in for work are usually much more comfortable (as
is the Delta I might add).
Overall impression:
Again, we did enjoy our stay. The items above that I see as cons can be
discounted. You may not need a gym if you are skiing or biking or hiking
all day. There are a million good restaurants 5 minutes walk away. Opt
for the king sized bed would be my recommendation. These are nit picks
but again, if the Pan Pacific wants to compete with other properties
which do have these things ... it needs to take these cons into account.
I do recommend staying at this hotel, but don't expect everything to be
perfect.

We had a 1 bedroom suite at the base of Blackcomb, great sheets & a
comfortable bed.
The sofa bed was comfy too!
Great to have two large TV's in the unit.
Good view from our pool....crankworkz was on.

I spent 2 nights at the Pan Pacific Mountainside and I highly recommend
the hotel. I would definitely stay there again. The staff were friendly
and helpful, the hotel was spotlessly clean and my studio room
overlooking the mountain was perfect with a little balcony where i could
enjoy my morning coffee. The kitchenette was well appointed with stove,
dishwasher, pots, pans, dishes etc. I liked the extra security feature
of having to use your room card to activate the elevator. The hotel is
in a perfect location for accessing "The Stroll" and gondolas.
