Convenient with everything close by, from ski valet to restaurants, so
everything was so convenient. Special touches like Starbucks coffee in
the rooms, awesome swimming pools and saunas and efficient and courteous
staff members added up to a very pleasurable experience. I have seen
some of the recent reviewers, but would suggest that most of these
reviewers have unrealistic expectations or have not traveled enough to
understand to true greatness of this property.

Positives:
next to slopes, in village - good location
clean
ski valet service
kitchenette
great view
gas fire place
pets allowed
Negatives
Parking is $30 per night
pool and hotub were crowded and not hot enough
pool and hotub are not lit up at night - look dark and murky
indoor pool and hotub feel like a community center
Expensive and we got a "good" rate - what do you expcet in Whistler
though?

Stayed here for a week for business but had plenty of time to play...
Great Location. Chairlift/ Gondola to either Blackcomb or Whistler is
right outside the door. Ski/ snowboard rentals right inside the Westin.
Staff. Friendly and more than helpful. I was able to email them files
and they would have them printed and delivered very quickly. This was a
good thing, because the business centre was lacking.
The Beds. VERY comfortable. Best hotel beds I've slept in.
I had opted into the No Housekeeping with the $s saved going to a
charity of choice. Housekeeping still came in and cleaned up even though
I didn't get new towels.
The Rooms. I had a junior suite and it was spacious and comfortable.
Kitchen was fully outfitted. TV (that I never turned on), fireplace,
desk, stocked mini-bar, sitting area,...
Gym wasn't big, but had a few good machines.
Spa was decent (a little expensive) - great views while getting a
manicure.
Restaurants - Nothing to rave about. Boring in fact. The main reason I
didn't give a 5/5.

If you're a Starwood Preferred Guest ski bum, the Westin Whistler is the
best place to use your points. Located at the base of the Whistler
Gondola, it is the cornerstone of Whistler Village. All the rooms have
kitchenettes and firplaces which make it ideal for a longer winter stay.
The pool is half indoor half outdoor and lots of fun on a snow filled
adventure.
Attached to the hotel is a shopping court where you can rent ski gear.
They don't allow skis in the rooms, so they offer a ski valet service,
which is ideal. Use the concierge service to get a table at the often
over booked restaurants in the village. They offer clout that's hard to
get on your own.
The hotel is not always quiet in the morning because everyone is getting
ready to head for the slopes, ski boots stomping on the floor above make
it difficult to sleep in, but if you're an early riser, all the better.
We've been coming here for years so it's time to write a review and give
kudos when deserved!

Small cramped rooms. They are reasonably clean, though there were
obviously problems with the drainage.
Service was very ordinary for such a brand.
Could not believe the Christmas evening buffet for over $100 per head.
Cold plates, cold food, tough roast beef, and the most tasteless array
of desserts I have ever seen. I have had better buffet at the local
workers club back home! Asked for a short black and got a long black. It
just goes on and on. They even had the temerity to specify a tip of
$54!!
Will not stay here again, and certainly would never eat at Aubergine.
Would be grossly overpriced at half the rate.

I have been surprised reading some of the disappointing reviews people
have given the Westin Whistler. We stayed there for 2 weeks of spring
skiing in April this year and absolutely loved it! We booked a 2 bedroom
suite for ourselves and our 2 kids aged 4 and 5 years old, and although
not particularly large (central Whistler never is because real estate is
a premium - if you want something bigger, then stay in a Blackcomb
apartment) it was more than adequate for our family and ski gear. The
location was perfect - we would pick up our skis at the valet on the
ground floor, walk 10 metres and drop off the kids to the Whistler ski
school every morning. The suite was comfortable, nicely furnished, clean
and warm with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and good robe and cupboard
space (and super comfy beds & pillows!). The living and kitchen(ette)
was compact, but more than adequate for relaxing after a day's skiing in
front of the gas fire - and we only used the kitchen facilities for
breakfast because all the restaurants are a short walk away! The staff
were friendly and very helpful (even arranging the immediate cleaning of
our room with housekeeping when we arrived early at check-in and
explained that we'd been travelling for 24 hours; and later during our
stay ensuring important documents emailed to the hotel from home were
printed and delivered quickly to our door), and every day housekeeping
would greet us on our way to the lift with a genuine & friendly wish for
a happy day's skiing! We never used the pool facilities as our apres ski
activities involved relaxing in our room, walking into the village, or
doing one of the numerous other activities Whistler has to offer (eg dog
sledding, tubing etc). I tried the Avello spa once for a foot treatment
which was fabulous, and is definitely on my list to do again. I would
agree that the accommodation is a little pricey, but isn't every Westin?
And I felt that we certainly got what we paid for, and nothing can beat
a convenient location for skiing with young children who cannot carry
their own ski gear! We have booked again for 2011 and are looking
forward to another excellent stay at the Westin Whistler!

Hotel is extremely convenient for skiing as you could walk out to the
Gondola only 100 yards from front door. Very clean and service was
excellent. Close to all other amenities such as the village and
restaurants. On site restaurant was acceptable but not as good as the
awards indicated. In room kitchenette has the basics - two stove top
burners but full oven and dishwasher and fridge....very convenient for
in room evenings. All dished and utensils provided. Would definitely
recommend this for the ski season and would also be convenient for the
summer months.
Good for early season when the rates are lower - if the snow is there. |
