Skiing at Whistler
|
The
ski resort consists of two mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb,
situated side by side and anchored by the "village" at their base.
Combined, they cover a skiable terrain of 8,171 acres serviced by 38
lifts and rising 5,280 feet above the valley floor.

Whistler Snowboarding
|
Not
only do we have more terrain, we have different snow conditions to
make it really interesting. Fortunately, this combination also
attracts some of the best instructors on the planet. While you're
here, you should take advantage of their knowledge and take a
lesson.
|
Whistler Mountain Ski Area
|
|
Largest ski area on the continent, with 7,071 acres
of skiable terrain, more than 200 trails and 12 massive alpine bowls,
including three glaciers.
Thirteen alpine bowls, three glaciers and
more than 200 marked runs make Whistler ski resort a skiing and
snowboarding mecca.
|
Whistler Peak to Peak Gondola
|
In
2009 the tops of Whistler and Blackcomb were connected by the record
breaking "Peak 2 Peak Gondola".
The first of it's kind in a North American resort, the "peak to
peak" gondola spans 4.4 kilometres and hangs 1,427 feet off the
ground at the middle of the span; making the trip in 11 minutes.
There has obviously been a lot of hype
about the new lift, and as a local, I was a bit skeptical of it's
usefulness, but you know what? It is really very cool, and has
changed the way I ski the mountains. You couldn't honestly ski both
mountains in the same day before, they're just too big. Now it only
takes 11 minutes to go from the top of one mountain to the other,
meaning on powder days you can catch the "glacier chair" open on
Blackcomb, cross over to Whistler for the "peak chair" open and get
the best of both.
|
Whistler Ski Lifts
|
Fast access to the alpine from five separate mountain bases, all five
minutes from each other and all equipped with high-speed lifts:
15 high-speed lifts (12 quad chairs and three gondolas) in a total
system of 33 - the most extensive high-speed lift system in the world.
