Hotel Review of the Westin
Hotel Whistler

We came for skiing with two young children, to meet friends and have
fun.
The hotel is certainly not a bad place to stay, and has a great
location.
The real issue is that it charges 5* prices and delivers service you
would expect to receive in a budget hotel. Everything is an additional
charge including ski valet (free at all other Whistler 5* hotels we
stayed in).
The front desk and car valet are friendly, but that is where service
ends!
The impression is that of being VERY short staffed in anything vaguely
resembling the service department. Concierge was very overworked - after
coming down to get a trolley, I was informed that they would come to the
room themselves ... waited over half hour in the room and then returned
to get a trolley ... whilst packing the car I overheard the luggage
concierge cancel the shuttle bus (which presumably he also drives) as he
had two arrivals coming!
The ski valet is charged for, only takes skis (you carry your poles and
boots back to the room) and the single overworked valet does not make
eye contact. There is nowhere to sit or get ready to go out at the ski
valet. Compared to the Four Seasons where the ski valet is over staffed
(usually about 5- 7 people) and the staff remember your name, bring
freshly baked cookies and hot chocolate, and you sit in comfort getting
ready or the Chateau where at least your boots, skis and poles are all
in the valet and you can sit in comfort, there is NO comparison.
The pool area is pleasant, but again a single attendant is rarely at the
desk, and the number of guests vs the facilities mean that on weekends
the hut tubs are like sardine cans at the end of the day. simple
absences, like no spin dryer for swimming trunks (present in every other
premium hotel in whistler) mean you have wet swimming kit hanging in
your room. If you want to REALLY relax after a day skiing, any one of
the other premium hotels wins hands down.
The rooms are small with queen beds ... I am 6'5' and they feel small.
If I am paying over $400 a night for a fairly basic room, the least that
could be provided is service! Internet access is an additional $15/day,
ski valet $6/day per person, and the usual premium food costs ... we did
not eat at the Hotel. Given the choice (which we do have) I will not be
staying at the Westin in Whistler again. For the same money the Four
Seasons has been my favorite to date.
I am booked into a Westin Diplomat in Florida in two weeks and can only
hope that the Whistler branch is an aberration.
The bottom line is that it felt like paying for a first class ticket and
getting economy class seating, and being asked to pay for the sandwich.

Have only visited Whistler for skiing trips and only stay at the Westin.
They offer ski rentals and ski valet service right in the hotel. The
location is right on Whistler mountain so the convenience is
unparalleled. I believe each room has a fireplace and a small kitchen
area.
The spa is excellent and the pool area offers an indoor and outdoor spa
for an apres ski soak. There are a few great places to eat in the hotel,
but if you decide to eat out there are a number of incredible
restaurants within a short walking distance.
You simply can't beat the luxury and convenience of this hotel.

We just returned from a 4 night stay at the Westin Whistler and it was
perfect!!!
We purchased the room through the WhistlerBlackcomb website as part of a
package that included skiing. Normally we do condos, given the kids and
all, so this was a big change for us.
We were BLOWN out of the water by the property, our room, the ENTIRE
staff we interacted with!!!
First, I was sure since we had purchased a package and received such a
great rate that our room would be "in the back of the bus" sort of
speak. When we walked in to the room we were totally overwhelmed. The
view was awesome! The space was great, and everything we needed was
there.
The gentleman who was stocking the fridge/snack items was in the hallway
and when I asked if we could have these items removed he said he was
sure it would be no problem. They were gone within an hour. With little
kids I needed the fridge space, and did not need the grief of being
nagged about Oreos and Gatorade every two minutes (kind of zaps the fun
of a hotel room right away). Many hotels really put up a fight with this
request (and make you have it daily)..not this time...just taken care
of! And for the week!
Maddy, from your bell service team was awesome! She had to come to our
car in the garage and help me unload and sort through what needed to
come in and what did not as we had been at a home over by Blackcomb with
friends for the previous 5 days. She was charming, patient, and made me
feel like I had no need to rush or be apologetic!
The woman who checked us in was super friendly, efficient and made us
feel like we were being welcomed BACK to the Westin! We were called when
our room was ready and told not to rush, but enjoy our day skiing!
I was really hesitant to stay at such a beautiful, luxury resort with
our kiddos...but they were made to feel so welcome, and they had a
wonderful time...as much fun as we did! The walk to Whistler kids was a
breeze, and the restaurants, stores, and amenities on property at the
Westin were first class...top notch! Not one bad service experience!
Westin rooms do have full kitchens. We ate dinners in a lot because
after a day in ski camp the kids can barely keep their eyes
open...tomato soup and grilled cheese, pasta, chili....the kitchens had
everything we needed! Also the walls must be kid proof because I know we
had a baby on one side of us and we never heard a peep the whole week!!
Thank you Westin Whistler for being part of a trip to Whistler that we
will never forget! And we will be forgoing our usual condo this summer
and checking back in with you and your team!
